Book Review – Simple Chic

October 19, 2012

Here’s a book title that requires no translation. Simple Chic. It’s not a very new book, but I’ve been buying mostly books for girls, so it’s only lately that I started sewing for myself and started buying more adult pattern books.

Today was one of those days. Days when you just don’t feel like doing much, want to sleep in, need to go out but too lazy to dress up, and then you just picked out your most comfortable shirt that requires no ironing (or you just don’t care) and stepped out of the door looking like a bum. Well, this book is here to save you from looking like a bum on “those days”. Simple Chic is full of patterns for simple, easy to wear clothes that are non-restrictive (comfortable), but you can still look chic at the same time! Want to have a peek into the book?

Book Review – Kids Clothes Sewing Lesson Book

October 12, 2012

I received this book together with the More! Handmade Wallets a couple of weeks ago, and I could not wait to share! This is a very new book also published by Nihon Vogue. I check their site out too often and I keep seeing new books that I want! The book title is 子供服ソーイング LESSON BOOK. Which literally means “Kids Clothes Sewing Lesson Book” The published date on this book is October 7th, but it is usually available before that in the bookstores in Japan, and I ordered mine through Kino’s bookweb during the 20% online sale, which was a fantastic deal given that this book  wasn’t even in the store yet so they had to order it for me 🙂

I was really pleased with this book, given that I only browsed through a couple of pages online before deciding. Sometimes you see a book with lots of promise on the cover, but you get disappointed with the contents. I love this cover, it really gives you an idea of what clothes are included in the book, and I think it’s because there are so many great projects it was hard to choose one to feature! One more thing to say before the jump. If there was only 1 book you can choose to buy for sewing kids clothes, this is the one to get. Or if you are deciding to get your very first Japanese sewing book (for kids), this is the one to get!

Book Review – Cotton Friend Autumn 2012

October 5, 2012

Is it Autumn yet? Being here in Singapore it’s hot all year round, so it’s hard to tell when the seasons change in other parts of the world. I rely on the publishing dates of my favourite sewing magazines like Cotton Friend and Cucito to indicate the change in seasons 🙂 I know I did a Cotton Friend Summer edition review recently,  but that was because I was slow to get the last one. Now that the Autumn edition is here, I better review it before Winter comes!

Book Review – Canvas Bags

August 31, 2012

One of my new books, and quite a recent release as well as it was just released on July 24th. I have a weakness for bag pattern books. I first saw this under the new books listed in nihon-vogue’s website. The patterns are very simple but that’s precisely why I like the book. These bags are definitely a lot more useable on a daily basis than the other pretty bag books that I have. But then again, I don’t need to justify making more bags (or buying more books on bags) do I? 😛
