I’m sorry to have taken so long to compute the results. But post-holiday laundry + unpacking + cleanup is a major task. I’m sure many of you will understand that. So who won the Japanese Sewing Books first birthday giveaway? Click to read more and find out!
I picked the winner the usual way, with my favorite spreadsheet and it’s random functions. And…. the winner is Mary (naii)! Check out her blog here, she’s also a blogger and she makes the most colorful and creative things. I hope you will like the giveaway package!
So what’s in the mystery package? Fabrics, a pattern, and notions just right for you to make a messenger bag! (Silly me forgot to take a picture of the finished bag in the store). But it looks like the Cath Kidston messenger bag, only smaller. The package will include Surface fabric, co-ordinating lining fabric, interfacing, 5cm strap and strap adjusters. I will also be making a copy of the pattern and writing down the translated terms on the copy so you can start making the bag rightaway.
The surface fabric is this lovely fabric made in Japan by Fujikyu -corp. This one has quite a marimekko feel to it but it’s actually a made in Japan by a local manufacturer. These are not the usual designer lines like echino or nani iro so I believe they are only sold in Japan (but do tell me if any of you have seen it elsewhere).
One more shot of the fabric.
Close up of the bag adjuster. Also made in Japan.
I forgot to buy the magnetic clasp which was listed in the pattern, so I have enclosed one from my own stash. I will also be sending you some tape with Handmade labels for your bag and other projects.
Congratulations Mary! I will be contacting you soon for your details to send you the prize 🙂

OHHHH! What a surprise! Lovely package!!! This fabric is beautiful! Thanks thanks thanks!!!!
That’s lovely!
Love the fabric!
I love the handmade labels. Could you let me know where I could buy them from? Thank you 🙂
Hi Monica, I bought them from a shop in Singapore called Sing Mui Heng. I believe it is a Japanese printed tape but I’m not sure if it can be found online.
I was lucky enough to find the tape on etsy. It will take 3 weeks to get to me unfortunately, but I’m looking forward to stitching the little labels onto my clothes as soon as they arrive 🙂
Happy New Year!
