Did you guys have fun sewing the Granny bag in the sew-along? Here are more goodies in the book that the bag was “inspired” from 🙂
The title of the book is いちばんよくわかる – 毎日使いたいバッグ which according to Google translate means Most often seen – Bags I want to use everyday? Not too sure about the translation but definitely something along the lines of Everyday Bags.
This book contains everything you need to know for making bags, with lessons and sections on subjects like tracing patterns, interfacing, making bias tape, attaching notions and straps and many more. The best part is, there are lots of visuals and photographs to guide you along, so hardly any translation is needed.
The following picture shows the basic bags included in the book.
For each of the bag type, there are at least two variations of the same design. All the patterns including the variation include detailed step by step pictures.
There are diagrams such as this one, showing you the names of the different parts of the bag, pretty handy when you need to decipher the material list which is probably one of the only things that need some translation. Just refer to the terms on this diagram and match the name of the parts on the material list.
There is also a list of fabrics that are commonly used and suitable for making bags/bag linings. I added the translation of the terms here in case the pictures are not clear.
An example of the step by step photographs.
Some of the projects in the book that I would like to make! A reversible Shoulder bag.
Matching Mummy/Daddy and kid rucksacks!
Purse-bag. I can finally learn how to attach the metal clasp frame to bags. I attempted once but it didn’t turn out nice 😉
Foldable Ecobag – great for unplanned shopping trips.
Bag in bag – a mini bag organizer with lots of pockets for everything. For those of us who carry large bags with a ton of junk inside, now you can organize everything and not have to dig around forever and never finding what you need. Especially my car keys!
And this is too cute! A matching mini bag as a brooch or charm to jazz up your bags!
Some of the bags are reversible, which means you get two bags in one. Make one in contrasting fabrics and flip it around when you feel like it.
I highly recommend this book because of how it covers everything from basic bag making to advance techniques. The step by step photos for almost everything makes this a great book to have in your collection, since there is really no issue of translating involved. A must have for all bag lovers!
