Today’s free patterns are not for sewing, but crochet and knitting. Do you crochet and/or knit? Difficult as it may seem, I actually learnt how to do both online by watching youtube videos. I got hooked (literally) after that 😛
I had to start looking for crochet/knitting patterns today because we finally decided on our holiday plans. We’re going to Hokkaido again! I know, it’s 3 times in a row. We did think about heading to Korea instead because we heard there are some pretty nice ski resorts there too but our kids are not as accustomed to Korean food (even though we like it very much). Anyway, for last year’s trip I made a whole bunch of stuff. From snow pants to fleece pullovers, crocheted beanies and gloves, scarves for daddy and Mummy. Amazingly, we lost only one pair of mittens and one beanie. So I will need to make new ones, plus they have grown and I will need to go though our winter clothing inventory to make sure they have something to wear. Add that on to the 4 flower girl dresses (actually, 3 left to go), and I have a very busy month ahead!
So I found this really nice website with alot of nice crochet and knitting patterns.  The link to the main site is here – http://www.daruma-ito.co.jp but the link to the free patterns is here. http://www.daruma-ito.co.jp/try/seasontext.html This company sells crochet, knitting and sewing related goods but unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be any free sewing patterns. The good thing is that their patterns are very professionally done, as you will see later.
The free patterns are grouped in issues called “Season’s Text”. The current season is displayed in thumbnails on the page, and if you scroll down further, you can find past issues below. There are even patterns for amigurumi crochet animals.
Select the project from the list and on the project page, click on the orange button to download the free PDF pattern.
Here is an example of the crochet pattern from the past issue. They use diagrams with the standard crochet symbols so it shouldn’t be too difficult to figure out. The only thing that may need translation would be the wool color but I guess choosing your own colors will be part of the fun.
I hope this will be useful for those of you who are getting started on your knitting/crochet projects for winter. Happy knitting!
